SUSTAINABILITY GOVERNANCE

At JBS, sustainability is a commitment that underpins the Company’s Business Units and areas, in all countries where it maintains operations and conducts business based on ethical and transparent work, constructive relationship with its stakeholders, and responsibility in the treatment given to people, animals and environment.

The company conducts its sustainability management based on clearly defined goals. They are:

Enhancing risk management

Reducing the business’ environmental footprint

Improving its eco-efficiency and its relationships with the society

Fostering innovation

The goal is to turn JBS into a leading company in the sustainable use of natural resources, minimizing its demand and reducing the generation of residues, to achieve production with increasingly better quality.

At the corporate level, the company maintains two global managers – one in Brazil and one in the United States – responsible for managing and communicating the topic, engaging the Business areas and the entire value chain in sustainability management. The Brazilian department tracks the domestic operations and their ramifications in other countries, while the team headquartered in the USA is focused on the national market, as well as on Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe.

One of the functions of the sustainability areas is to be an interface between JBS and its main stakeholders – market, customers, suppliers and consumers, among others-, enabling a constant dialogue between the parties of interest.

The Company has an important instance of governance in this subject with the JBS Sustainability Committee, responsible for debating strategic global issues. The Committee reports directly to the Board of Directors.
